I had the good fortune last Thursday to have the opportunity to present at a conference on Innovation and Entrepreneurship for Engineers under the auspices of the Silicon Valley Chapter of the Society of Manufacturing Engineers. Given the nebulous topic of ‘marketing,’ I decided to talk about how small businesses can think about using the social media tools at their disposal to reach out to their customers, industries and communities. Since this was a room full of ‘product guys’ and inventors, most of the material was new to them – and I was definitely the only presenter who had the President and Simon Cowell on screen.
Other presenters on the panel included Chris Gill of Silicon Valley Association of Startup Entrepreneurs (SVASE), Stanford sustainability instructor and design4X President Mark Martin, Ph.D., and Michelle Nash-Hoff, author of Can American Manufacturing Be Saved?
In exchange, I learned more than I ever thought I’d know about composite plastics.
